If you’re into haunting plotlines and creepy works of art, succumb to the call of the FrightReads Book Fest. As you can probably guess from its name, this book festival highlights all things Halloween- and horror-related, from young adult fantasy novels to bone-chilling graphic art books.
On Saturday, October 1st, the festival returns to the Benfield Sportscenter for its second year. Despite its relatively short lifespan, the book festival has already undergone major growth. This year, expect a slate of highly regarded authors, artists, and even actors from the fantasy and horror space. Justina Ireland, a writer of well-known works of young adult fantasy and science fiction, serves as the headliner this year alongside other notable guests such as horror actress and wrestler Monique Dupree and graphic artist Ian McGinty. In addition to meet-and-greets with these headliners, you’ll also be able to rub shoulders with smaller local authors and artists, take in a magic show, and meet real-life ghost hunters. Tickets start at $5 for adults and children under 10 get in free.
